Native English words may have a COGNATE relationship with native words in Greek or Latin—mother is cognate with Greek meter and Latin mater; but a NATIVE English word, by definition, cannot be derived from a Latin or Greek word. This is simply because English is a Germanic language, and its native words are Anglo-Saxon in origin. The Indo-Hittite hypothesis proposes that the Indo-European language family consists of two main branches: one represented by the Anatolian languages and another branch encompassing all other Indo-European languages. Features that separate Anatolian from all other branches of Indo-European (such as the gender or the verb system) have been interpreted alternately as archaic debris or as Geographic distribution: Originally (pre-colonial era) .

Latin is just the ancient form of Spanish, French, and Italian. And what's more, Latin wasn't what it once was, since it is also derived from another more ancient (and lost) language. Indo-European etymological dictionary. This project aims to identify and describe the common lexical heritage of the Indo-European languages. The English word case used in this sense comes from the Latin casus, which is derived from the verb cadere, "to fall", from the Proto-Indo-European root *ḱad-. The Latin word is a calque of the Greek πτῶσις, ptôsis, lit. "falling, fall". The sense is that all other cases are considered to have "fallen" away from the nominative.   Published on Mar 8, This video is about the Indo-European languages and the connections between them, going all the way back to Proto .

As shown in the map below (from Wikipedia, s.v. Magna Graecia: map caveats duly noted), there were Doric, Ionic, Northwest Greek, and ‘Achaean’ coastal ‘pockets’. The concern of this post is how we can associate with a particular dialect.
